How our FPL predicted points are made
Predicted points, or expected points (xP), are the number of Fantasy Premier League points a player is expected to score in a gameweek. Ours start with minutes: how likely a player is to start, given their recent starts and FPL's own availability news, with each club's line-up adding up to eleven. An absent regular therefore raises the chances of whoever plays instead.
Goals and assists come from the goals we expect the club to score in that fixture, shared between the players by their expected goals and assists per 90 minutes. Clean sheets, goals conceded and saves follow from the goals we expect the opponent to score. Defensive contributions and cards use each player's own record.
Bonus points depend on everyone else in the match, so each fixture is simulated thousands of times. The same simulation gives the floor, ceiling and chance of a big score that FPL Analyst shows. Open a player's row to see where their expected points come from.
Frequently asked questions
What does xP mean in FPL?
Expected points: the average number of points a player would score if the gameweek were played many times. A player at 6.0 will often score 2 and sometimes 15; the average of all those outcomes is 6.
Are the FPL predicted points free?
The next gameweek is free for every player, including where the points come from. Projections for the ten gameweeks ahead and the range of outcomes are part of FPL Analyst, which is also included in KickoffScore Pro.
Can I see predicted points for my own team?
Yes. Enter your FPL team ID on the hub to see your squad's best eleven for the next gameweek with each player's expected points, or load it into the transfer planner to try transfers.
How far can the projections be trusted?
A single gameweek is mostly chance, so no projection is close for one player in one match. What matters is being right on average, and we publish that: the accuracy page scores every gameweek against the real points and against FPL's own projection.
